Stockbridge, MA Passes Impeachment Resolution

stockbrg4993.jpgA beaming Bob Feuer proudly announced that “the patriotic town of Stockbridge passed its resolve to impeach Bush and Cheney by a hand counted vote of 110 - 34. That is a 76% yes vote! We are now thirteen open meeting towns of Western Massachusetts so resolved by greater than a 2/3 majority.”

The Article was amended to include notice by the town clerk to the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives.

Here’s how Bob persuaded his neighbors at Stockbridge’s annual meeting to resolve to investigate and impeach Bush and Cheney. He stated to them:

I. My name is Robert Feuer. I move article III., as printed in the 2007 Annual Town Report.

II. I move to amend paragraph last to add information and notice to the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives.

1. January 20, 2009, Inauguration day is too late, We must act now.

2. 9 days ago the vice president threatened another war against Iran. Could we already be in World War III? Last week congress budgeted another $179 billion to continue this immoral war beyond October 1st; and authorized the president to intercept, seize, and open your 1st class and electronic mail.

3. I have prepared comments, but time constraints are overwhelming. I will answer your questions during the comment period to follow.

4. In 1967, this town’s annual meeting resolved to end the war in Viet Nam. Stockbridge became the first municipality to go on the Congressional record to end the war in Viet Nam.

5. I speak from my soul, We must impeach these people. We must restore the law of our land, the US Constitution. We must impeach those who act beyond our laws.

6. Tonight, we can join 12 towns in W. Mass, who at open town meetings, this year have resolved by over a 2/3 majority to impeach Bush and Cheney. There are also five cities in Mass, 40 towns and the Senate in Vermont. The list so resolved spreads from coast to coast.

7. Stockbridge now has the opportunity to vote its conscience. Before you cast your vote tonight, I pray you consult not your politics, but rather, act upon your conscience. Tonight, that Honor, Privilege, and Duty is ours.

These seven points brought a “no discussion” hand vote of 110 - 34. That’s over 76% “YEA!”

Stockbridge, first settled in 1734, is in the heart of the Berkshires, and was home to Norman Rockwell, who set many of his famous paintings there. Stockbridge’s proud heritage includes the Red Lion Inn, one of the few remaining inns in continuous usage since the 18th century.

Massachusetts is one of the United States’ original 13 colonies.
